For everyone else, we wanted to explain a little more clearly why the project has moved again.

Earlier this summer, one of the final artefacts in Innsmouth Rising was being produced with a very particular finish. It is a small detail in the wider experience, but an important one.

When the final sample arrived in July, it simply was not what we had asked for and didn't function as intended.

We could have accepted it and kept the project moving. We chose not to. That decision caused the latest string of delays. Since then, production has suffered what can only really be described as death by a thousand cuts: revised samples, further corrections, a factory audit, a typhoon, and a succession of small setbacks that, individually, would have been manageable but together have pushed the schedule further than we expected.

In truth, this is often how projects of this complexity come together. There are a great many different objects, materials, finishes and suppliers involved, and the final stretch can sometimes become a process of solving one small problem after another. This time, unfortunately, those small problems have manifested as delay after delay.

We know how frustrating that is. It is frustrating for us too. We want Innsmouth Rising out in the world, and we do not take lightly the decision to move a delivery date once it has been given. However, there is a point at which keeping to a timetable would mean accepting something that we do not believe works properly as part of the experience. That is a compromise we are not prepared to make.

The final outstanding component is now expected with us shortly, and we are preparing for fulfilment to begin in October.

Crates are a slightly unusual product. The objects themselves are the experience, and revealing too much about production can also reveal too much about what is waiting for you inside. Historically, our instinct has been to protect that mystery. Going forward, we will try to walk that line more carefully: keeping the main updates spoiler-free, while giving those who want it the opportunity to see more of what is happening behind the scenes.
