*NEW REVISED EDITION*

Tales of sea monsters were likely sightings of squids, orcas, and other larger creatures of the deep that simply had never been observed before. Nevertheless, these stories were applied to maps, emblazoned with the phrase "here be dragons".

Today these warnings are seen as archaic lunacies symptomatic of an age of superstition, but they once held a deeper truth. The ocean has secrets, dark and ancient secrets, that lie beneath the waves. With The Century Beast, we share one such secret.

Synopsis

The ocean is a cold and unforgiving master. Ancient tales of sailors and explorers survive today in myths, sea shanties, and superstitions. Are these just fabrications that have embedded themselves in the collective subconscious, or is there any truth to them?

The Century Beast is a story about someone who is searching for answers and is stopped at every turn by forces beyond their understanding. You will follow along their progress, and glimpse into their mind. What will you find, we wonder? Will you find truth, or will it all be the conspiratorial ramblings of a lunatic?

To help you decide, the crate you will receive will contain every possible reference, clipping, and audio evidence of The Century Beast we were able to get our hands on. We also managed to procure a beautiful yet unsettling artifact before it was destroyed, which you will also receive.

The tide of this tale is neither prosperous nor comfortable. With this knowledge, one may face similar choices as those who came before them. We strongly recommend that you learn from those decisions when determining your own course of action. Our advice: the ship is yours to sail.

Audience

The Century Beast is an unsettling story of madness and death. It is not suitable for young audiences or those with a sensitive constitution. Your recipient will enjoy this if they are fans of H.P. Lovecraft, Vikings, and weird fiction.

Still mysterious

We loved it but still feel like we were left hanging. Are we getting another mailing in this mystery? We were not expecting Norwegian Black Metal, but really loved that touch!

They were convinced it was possessed.

Gave this gift to a family with three boys (21, 19, 16) home due to COVID/winter break. This is a family that is very theatrical and as they became increasingly unsure about why the box showed up and whether or not the USB would corrupt their computer, delusion began to take hold. The kids whipped themselves into a frenzy--the oldest could not convince the youngers that it was probably sent by someone the family knew--and eventually the 16 year old took the box to exorcise it with his friends. The boys burned the totem and the contents of the box to vanquish the demonic presence. This box surely delivered entertainment even it if was not "used as directed." I would recommend anyone gifting to a family with a flair for the dramatic install a confederate in the home so that the more diabolical package theories can be put to rest *before* the mysterious package goes up in flames.

Interesting historical delve

Criticism first, applause second:

Many products of the Company involve elements of horror. Perhaps it was the subject, but the Century Beast felt a little lacking in this department. A few vague allusions to magic, and fewer still to a more personal antagonist, or a sense of madness suffered by a few people, did not necessarily give an impression of danger.

Perhaps it would have been better written without any horror elements, merely providing an interesting alternate-historical research about an obscure phenomenon?

Otherwise I was very happy with its presentation, the articles and artifacts are all very well written, fairly original in concept, and interesting to flip back and forth between, seeing elements of connection.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend this product as it is advertised. My greatest problem with the Package was the consistent thought: “okay, but why is this scary?” which is not something you want when categorized under horror.

Mysterious Package Company

Thank you very much for your feedback and we're delighted you enjoyed the experience. We always appreciate hearing from you. Please note, The Century Beast is not categorized, as a horror experience but rather as an antiquity under the theme section on our website. Perhaps with this in mind, we've helped settle your consistent thought :)

Immersive and Engauging

Like a few others, my package generated a Suspicious Package Alert and was confiscated for a couple days before I was able to retrieve it and its contents. After getting immersed in the story, I found this little hiccup apropos, given that 'something unseen' is trying to prevent you from receiving the entirety of this spooky tale... I did find the ending a little wanting, but it was an ending, and the rest of the story was great besides. The recording REALLY sold the experience! My friends and I loved listening and speculating as the clues came together and the narrative unfolded. For the 'Heavy Object' and the recording alone, I'd recommend The Century Beast to any fan of sea monsters and/or Scandinavian history.
