POST MORTEM LA: LIGHTS, CAMERA, MURDER!

Our Post Mortem games are deeply narrative-driven and chock-full of puzzles, clues, intrigue and complex problem-solving. They’re perfect for fans of classic murder mysteries or modern shows like CSI and Law & Order, and they’re suitable for either a solo or group activity.

In the world of Post Mortem, you’ve been recruited as a detective to help solve some of the toughest and most intractable cases that come across the Chief’s desk. We’ve given you everything you need. We know you can do it. Can’t you?

“Hollywood is a place where they’ll pay you a thousand dollars for a kiss and fifty cents for your soul.” — Marilyn Monroe

The bullet-riddled bodies of film star Clara Rose and her estranged husband are found on a dusty backlot at Orpheum Pictures, the most powerful studio in Hollywood. Was it a classic murder-suicide? A business rivalry that turned personal? Revenge for unpaid debts to the Mob?

Or could it be something far more sinister, and bigger than anyone could have imagined?

As a lead investigator, you’ll receive a package containing all the evidence, clues, clippings, documents, desperate notes scrawled in secret, and other materials you’ll need to explore noir-era LA and solve the case. Your guidebook will help you stay on target. And there are plenty of surprises in store.

Well crafted & Fun

This was my first murder mystery and I think it was excellent. The dialogue and the mechanics worked well. There weren't very many gaps. We took 5 hours to get through it and one of the five players got all the questions right - while the rest of us did much less well...which just goes to show you that it can be done, but it isn't easy.

Excellent!!

This was the fisrt of these type of packages we've tried....I wanted to go straight in with 'Hastur', but SWMBO decided we should ease ourselves in gently. We bought this back in the Summer with the intent that it should be opened once the dark nights set in and we could puzzle over it with a fire roaring and a glass of red on the go. We started it on Saturday night and upon opening the box we were pleasanty surprised with the contents of the file. A map, a newspaper page, evidence bags, notebook and the novel. We'd never done a narrative driven puzzle before and it took a few minutes to get the 'gist' of what we should be doing, but the informants helped a little (not as much as we'd hoped) The novel was written in the style of the pulp detective novels and contained a few red herrings and a few twists and surprises. We played it in total for about 8 hours over saturday and Sunday nights before we decided that we had the answers.......but we were wrong! The solution required a bit of lateral thinking and piecing together some bits of what seemed to be innocuous information and it was only after we'd broken the seal on the solution that we were able to 'reverse engineer' and find out where we'd gone wrong.

All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed it and would certainly do another. If you don't write in the notebook and don't write on the report at the end, you can reseal everything and maybe pass it on to a friend or relative that likes this sort of thing.

Fun but a little confusing

I liked the characters and the story and got a lot of information out of it, but the actual solution is really difficult to come up with from it.
