Case Synopsis

“Hollywood is a place where they’ll pay you a thousand dollars for a kiss and fifty cents for your soul.” — Marilyn Monroe

Movie star Clara Rose and her estranged husband are discovered shot to death on the dusty backlot of Orpheum Pictures. Classic murder-suicide? Hollywood rivalries that became too real? Mob debts unpaid? Or perhaps something far more sinister…

Due to a profound corruption scandal, the District Attorney has given the Global Detective Agency temporary jurisdiction and oversight of the LAPD. And so -- in need of more gumshoes on the ground -- they are looking to recruit a large number of probationary cautionary auxiliary investigators. That would be you.

And now it is up to you to find the truth.

The package sent to you will contain all the resources you need to carve your path around LA, interrogate suspects, and solve the murder. But please remember: Although an exciting opportunity, discretion is a must. The walls have ears.

And as we say at the GDA: Our eyes never sleep.

Lights! Camera! Murder!

I had fun and my elementary kids were engaged and able to follow along. We took a long break in the middle, though, and ended up so utterly wrong with our conclusion about whodunnit.

Gumshoe Noir Alive and Well

Purchased this as a birthday gift for my wife, Destiny, figuring it was something she would have to do on her own. Instead, I joined her early on a Saturday morning as we opened the package, read the brief instructions, then dived in. It felt a touch unsettling at first, since so much of it seems self-directed, but we soon fell into a rhythm. We took turns reading clues, taking notes, referring to the map and the city directory, opening evidence envelopes (the physical props blew us away), along with lots of discussion. When we reached the point of needing to step away and let our thoughts simmer for a bit, we were shocked to realize six hours had passed in what felt like an instant! We returned to it individually throughout the afternoon and evening, and the next morning spent a couple hours together comparing notes over coffee and bagels.

What sparkles about this experience? The way we (in the role of the Global Detective Agent) felt like we were partnering in constructing the plot as details build and so many backstories come together; the physical props (from the map, to autopsy reports, and so much more); the "aha!" moments when opening an evidence envelope or finding the hole in a witness story; and the several plausible possibilities in terms of suspects and motivations – even the red herrings fit neatly into the tale. This experience challenged us on several levels, but never felt beyond our reach.

The best part, though, is that my wife and I spent the day not…

Lights, Camera,Murder

I purchased this as something to do with a small group of friends for my birthday. I was looking for something that would be a one shot experience: 1 mailing, open the box & have everything you need to play. There were 5 of us, & it took us approximately 5.5 hours to work thru the entire experience. We all have very different ways of thinking, so we all worked together to examine the evidence & solve the puzzle. I was very impressed with how immersive it was, & all the pieces of evidence (sealed up in cute little evidence bags to open when you get to the right part). It was very easy to follow--no confusing rules or anything, had alot of depth, very engaging, kept us busy all night. We all greatly enjoyed it. I purchased 2 different mysteries, because as gamers I was worried we might zip thru it, but it entertained us all night & everyone is looking forward to setting up a date for the next one. I will definitely look into other experiences for special occasions. It was wonderful to be able to do this At Home--& felt like being part of a movie! I loved the story--& we cracked the case!!! I was also concerned it might be difficult to do as a group, that it might be geared toward one or two people? Not the case--you can easily share this & go thru it together as a family /group. In fact i reccomend doing it this way!
